Donuts & My Favorite Preacher

I love winter break! I have loved it my entire life, it brings the greatest time of the year, usually a good snow, time to relax with loved ones, my sister's famous Hot Cranberry Tea (that we wait all year for!), twinkle lights, cozy sweaters, I love it all. We are down to our last few days of winter break, so this morning we all slept in late & Karly and I decided to put on our glorious sweats & head to Dunkin Donuts (my most favorite donuts! I am overjoyed that they are back in St. Louis, I know I really should not be so excited about a donut, but I am! ;))

We were driving back home enjoying our donuts and we passed a church that I spent a lot of time in as a child/pre-teen. I noticed big for sale sign in the yard on the church, I felt so sad, a flood on memories came: it was the place I really fell in love with Jesus, where I was baptized, my first lead role for their Christmas play, the first time I lead worship, my first church camp, the first place I fell in love with "real" preaching (I can still see Bro. Orrick wiping the sweat from his head with his little white hanky). I have realized in my life that it usually isn't until much later in life do I realize the impact people are having on my life. This little church that still has its white steeple & red carpet holds beautiful memories for me. Not sure if its me feeling emotional these days, or if I'm just growing up & getting older that I am realizing how thankful I am for people God sprinkled throughout my life who invested in me. I am still friends with many of the people I met at this little church. And I have to say I feel honored to have known & sat under the preaching of Bro Orrick, a man who truly loved God & preached it with ALL his heart. I am sure he is up in heaven still waving his white hanky. You just don't find churches & preachers like that anymore. I love that our drive for donuts lead me to sharing these great memories with my daughter. She told me " Mom if you love that church so much I'm sure Daddy will buy it for you!" LOL. love her. I can only hope and pray to influence & leave this same legacy for other's.
